The Virginia Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT), Virginia Railway Express (VRE), and FXBGO! has requested FAMPO to adjust funding for projects in the Transportation Improvement Program. The TIP contains a list of projects slated to receive federal funding in the next four years. All transportation projects receiving federal funding are of regional significance and are included in the TIP document. The process of adjusting funding for projects in the TIP document includes a 20-day public comment period followed by FAMPO Policy Committee approval. The Public Hearing will be hosted at the next Policy Committee meeting on September 15, 2025.

The FAMPO Policy Committee approved Resolution 26-14 and released CMAQ/STBG/CR Project Selection and Allocation Process. The Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) is a federal-aid highway program that provides funds for transportation projects or programs that will contribute to meeting the requirements of the Clean Air Act. CMAQ funds generally cannot be used for projects that result in the construction of new capacity for single-occupancy vehicles. You can learn more about the federal CMAQ funding program here. The Surface Transportation Block Grant Program (STBG) is the most flexible type of federal transportation funding and can be used for a wide range of transportation projects, planning, and programs. The process of updating the CMAQ / STBG / CR Project Selection & Allocation Process includes a 20-day public comment period followed by FAMPO Policy Committee approval. The Public Hearing will be hosted at the next Policy Committee meeting on September 15, 2025.
