Here’s your opportunity to weigh in on a transportation project list for the Fredericksburg region.
The federal government requires metropolitan planning organizations, such as FAMPO, to develop a long-range transportation plan that projects at least 20 years out. The plan must be updated at least every four years. It is now time to update the plan for our region, which includes the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford and Spotsylvania.
As part of the effort to develop a new transportation plan, FAMPO staff have worked with city and county planners to develop a draft list of transportation projects that are anticipated to receive federal funding through the year 2050. FAMPO is seeking public input on the proposed transportation project list.
Learn how to review the list and provide comments by visiting the Creating a New Transportation Plan webpage. Look for “participate now” and “happening now” sections highlighted in red. A video resource will show you how to review the project list. After you review the list, use the directions on the webpage to send FAMPO your concerns or expression of support. Comments can address individual projects, distribution of funding among different transportation modes or geographic areas, or any other related topic. Comments should be submitted by September 1, 2021, so that all FAMPO advisory committees can review them. However, comments will be collected through September 14, 2021. All comments will be considered by the FAMPO Policy Committee before they vote on whether to approve the project list.
We need another bridge crossing the River. Is it possible to also have an exit to celebrate Va at the rest stop? This would take some of the Fred Nats traffic off 95z. Also, I live on 17 north and we also need for their to be a better way to divert traffic going 95 s. There should be at least 2 exits onto 95 s in both directions from 17. The traffic on exit 133 is ridiculous.
We absolutely need another route (other than Rte 1 or I 95) going north and south in the county. Driving from Stafford to Fredericksburg or Spotsylvania is impossible on weekends and during commuting times.
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment about the need for alternate routes to relieve congestion. We will be sure to include your comment with the other public comments that our advisory committees and decision-making Policy Committee will review before endorsing/adopting the draft transportation project list. Those committees meet in September and we will be sure to update you on the outcome and how public comments like yours influenced the decision-making process.
Thank you for your comments on the need for reducing traffic around the I-95 / Rt 17 intersection, the need for another river crossing, and the need for a new I-95 exit that takes travelers into the Celebrate Virginia area near the Nats Stadium. You will be glad to learn that the city just released a small area development plan for the area around Nats Stadium, which includes a new exit from I-95. I don’t believe they have identified funding for the project, but the city does recognize the need for an additional exit in that area.
We will be sure to pass your comment on to our advisory committees and decision-making Policy Committee who will review all public comments before endorsing/adopting the draft transportation project list. Those committees meet in September and we will be sure to update you via email on the outcome, and how public comments influenced decisions.
